Anderson stabs himself with a nail blessed by Jesus Christ's blood in the heart. Said nail was referred by Alucard to be "remnant of a miracle" (the miracle being god) and by infusing one with its power (which holds the power of God), Anderson became a "monster of god." By using that "miracle", Anderson's character altered, as he became a fearless, heartless, destructive force that fights in the name of God.
The Nail granted Anderson a massive boost in power:
1. Immortality - The Nail granted Anderson eternal life.
2. Increased Regeneration - Anderson's regenerative abilities far surpassed that of his human regeneration (which was based on Iscariot human technology). He was able to regenerate his head after it was completely blown off and turned into a spuddle of blood by Alucard's Jackal at the same rate that Alucard was able to regenerate his head after he was beheaded by Anderson. Furthermore, he was able to regenerate his arms and other parts of his body after it was torn to shreds by a spammed barrage of Casull and Jackal bullets from a bloodlusted, enraged Alucard. This also proves that the nature of Anderson's regeneration and his body was above the Jackal's anti-regenerative capabiltiies (which specifically targeted Anderson's human-technology-based regeneration as he was even able to regenerate a wound to his arm from single Jackal bullet).
3. Increased Speed - Anderson's attack speed with his bayonets increased significantly. He was able to blitz a serious Alucard at full power while being a meter away from him with a swing of his bayonet (beheading him) while looking down at his feet and while Alucard was going to pull the trigger on his Jackal . Furthermore, he was able to drop a bayonet on Alucard's forehead after he jumped way above him before Alucard can even shoot a bullet from an already-raised Jackal. It's likely that his footspeed increased as well, seeing as he was able to charge after a serious Level 0 Alucard who was moving backwards.
4. Increased Durability & Endurance: It appears that the Jackal bullets have a higher difficulty in wounding Anderson's body. One bullet was able to plow out a huge chunk of his arm when he was human. Now it took dozens just to tear it to shreds like a wet rag with holes on it, but with the arm still hanging.
Anderson has a ridiculous amount of endurance/stamina. He was able to casually shrug off being damaged by the Jackal as if it were nothing, whereas when he was human he was significantly affected by it from just one bullet, and keep on charging and fighting without hesitation.
He was also able to continue to live on for a while despite the fact that he had half of his body violently ripped out, his heart ripped out and crushed, and the nail no longer in him, without any reflection in pain or damage.
5. Holy Fire - Anderson was able to generate powerful flames from his thorn-wrapped bayonets. The flames specifically burned and incinerated anything that was considered unholy or demonic. Alucard was immobolized and burned by the flames when the bayonet and thorns pierced him. Furthermore, the flames have a very rapid spreading rate, as it grew from Alucard and spread to his army of millions of undead familiars, which was spread all around London City in multiple city blocks, and roasted them to nothingness in a heartbeat. The fire worked effectively against ghouls and vampires. Because of the fire, Anderson was able to raze the entirety of London capital in flames.
6. The Thorns - Anderson's body is now composed of spiky thorns (a reference to Jesus's crown of thorns). These thorns protrude out of his body whenever he regenerates extensive damage (in fact, his thorns also have something to do with the regeneration process). Anderson can protrude them out of his body and suspend him in mid-air, forming a cross-shaped shape of thorns. The thorns can extend across vast lengths. It can wrap around targets, injure them, and help with setting them on fire. Anderson wrapped his bayonets in the thorns to generate the flames that paralyzed Alucard.
Using this nail destroyed Alucard's perception of Anderson as a human, and saw him as nothing but a monster. The nail is proof that one is not strong enough to make it as a human, and they need special, supernatural abilities to survive. Although it contains miraculous, immense holy power, it sacrifices one's humanity. The Nail is an anti-monster weapon. The thorns and flames specifically destroy the monster.
When this was used on Alucard, it worked but wasn't fully effective. Alucard, perhaps because of his immunity to vampiric weakness and his perfection as the ultimate vampire, endurance, immortality, regeneration, was able to resist the flames for awhile and Anderson had to move the bayonet lower until it seemed like he had to slice Alucard into two halves for the fire damage to destroy him.
Seras was also able to resist the fire's power, to a degree.
Only the ghoulish humans and artificial vampires were incinerated by the flames instantly.
When Anderson used this nail to be able to defeat Alucard one-on-one, he sacrificed his humanity and chose to become a monster to do so. In essence, he would have killed Alucard had Seras not stopped him and woke Alucard up.
It's not known if this works on non-unholy/monstrous presences. As Integra, the Iscariot men, and the surrounding environment and buildings were unharmed by the wake of the fire.
